There are six universities in the Gatineau-Ottawa area, including the Université du Québec en Outaouais, which is very active in the fields of photonics and telecommunications computing.


Gatineau was rated tenth among mid-sized cities in the 2013-2014 ranking of American Cities of the Future. The research team at fDi Magazine collected data for more than 400 cities under five categories: economic potential, human resources, cost effectiveness, infrastructure and business friendliness.
